New York Baaaaaaby!

by brokenrecordbaby

So, I am finally finally here after about a 15 year count down and it is everything i expected and more. but yeah as i havent had time to write anything yet ill write a bit about the journey.

as always i booked a flight so early in the morning that a sleepover at the airport was inevitable. was all right though. when i was finally on the airplane i scored a emergency exit seat so my little stumpy legs had all the room in the world and a free seat next to me. the window seat however was occupied by a real freak. he was supposed to be sitting behind me but switched with a guy. he put his newspaper on the seat and then kneeled infront of it. at first i thought he was praying cuz he was looking down with his hands folded muttering but then i think he had a bad leg? fuck knows….anyway he caused a bit of a kafuffle…two stewardess went over and talked to him saying he was inappropriate.

then in dublin had to do the whole american custom thing which was pretty chillaxed…yaddiiyaadaa. the flight was amazing. so exciting as i havent been on a trans-atlantic flight for a nearly a decade. good tv shows and shit. and the music was amazing…yeasayer, vampire weekend, she&him, hot chip….. so then after 7.5 hours or so the plane finally got to JFK. tears were shed. i got a bit emotional woo especially when the manhattan skyline came into view.

then….of fucking course as i was getting my suitcase i waaaaiited and waaaaaaiited until, finally, i had to except the damn thing just didnt make it across the big pond. so that really sucked but hey, im in new york so no complaining. so theeeeen i got the J train into Brooklyn. somehow found my way to my flat and fuuuuuuck the flat is amazing. so modern, clean, beaaaaaautiful. real big, pulldown trapdoor staircase, roof top balcony thing, another balcony, giant ass bathtub. basically i feel pretty outta place here.

i bounced real quick though. i took the L train into manhattan and got off the one stop that sounded familiar which was Union Square. and as i walked up those subway stairs i was getting mentally prepared….this was it. my first glimpse of the big apple. and it was fucking breathtaking. everyone was rushing, tons of traffic, tons of cabs, huge billowing buildings, a horde of people gathered around a group of dancers, park benches filled up with people chilling out after work, a huge group of cyclists that had met up there. it was amazing.

i then walked around knowing only that i wanted to head downtown so i let the city carry me. i found a shop dedicated to the big lebowski, i found myself at university place, washington square, then i went through soho which was really bustling. i walked through little italy which actually feels like being in italy. restaurant after restaurant with outside seating, waitors trying to hustle you in bricklane style, ice cream vendors…. then i got into china town which was surprisingly quiet and empty but i might have just been at the wrong end of it. at this point my bladder was the size of a highly pregnany baby bump, i was sooo hungry and tired (i had been up for almost 30 hours at this point) so i hopped on the subway and got home.

man iv missed out on loads of detail and stuff but basically i was walking around and i felt this weird sensation of a combination of feeeling so at home, at ease and familiar but at the same time being amazed by every little thing and feeling like i was floating around cuz it was too unreal.

i never want to leave
