A little introduction…

by Lisa

Hello Peeps! I’m Lisa and I’m one of the new authors that contribute to the lovely collective that Agitate the Gravel is becoming. Like some of the other writers here at ATG I’m taking part in the Matador U Travel Writing course, however my background is in the Culinary Arts.

At heart I’m a very artistic person and in high school I figured that if I was going to go to college, it had to be for something I loved to do. So, I went to The Culinary Institute of America in upstate New York. For the three and a half years I was there I did a lot of traveling through which I also had some major “food experiences”. Such as:

– living in an apartment with a bunch of debaucherous line cooks in western New York for four months

– living out of my suitcase for a week while traveling through the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. for a Food and Wine Seminar

-WWOOFing for three weeks in County Sligo, Ireland on a small organic farm owned by the granddaughter of playwright Bertolt Brecht (I got lucky with that one!)

Those are just a few of the places I’ve had the opportunity to travel to, but the coming year is going to be an exciting one. At the moment I call Middletown, Delaware home for the next few weeks and then I’ll be setting off for Nashville, Tennessee. Like some of the other writers here I’m also enrolled in the Matador U Travel Writing program. My plan is to bring to Agitate the Gravel my perspective on food culture, trends, artisans, restaurants, as well as some of my awesome recipes!
